I looked at these liqueur shots awhile back when I had returned from Oz. They are both quite striking with the shadows, the obscured light and the dark reflections. I guess that this is what commercial photographers are after. On a technical point, Brett, not a criticism, would the colour of the light affect the colour of the subjects? I'm guessing that it would, and that having either a source of different colour temperature or some sort of filter might give some interesting results.

Interesting point, David.  Yeah, I've had mixed feelings about the colours.  Mind you, these are natural--the yellow-browns were there in the curtains and table cloth.  The claw holding the liqueur glass is too dark, too; I was hoping it would be lighter and more obvious to the viewer.  I may, when I get time, play with the temperature.

I guess you could lighten the claw by judicious use of an editing program, or on another shoot you could have an off-camera spot light. But then the whole set up gets more complicated. Hmmm...food for thought.

I tried the selective editing to bring out the claw--didn't really work.  Might, indeed, try the spotlight technique next time.

Thanks, Gigi.  I took a similar shot about four years ago but with a shitty Pentax.  I wanted to do it over with a good camera this time, and I deliberately wanted to duplicate the shadow.
