Confederation Bridge (#4)
It was one of my bucket-list items to drive across this amazing bridge, which connects mainland New Brunswick with Prince Edward Island, two east-coast Canadian provinces.  The bridge is 12,900 meters long and takes about 12 minutes to cross going the required speed of 80 kph.  The bridge took four years to build (1993-1997).  They don't charge you money for driving onto P.E.I. but they do charge about $45 Canadian to get off the island!  The bridge is the longest over ice-covered waters in the world, and you can see reinforcements at the base of the pillars for ice flows.  The average height is 131 feet above this part of the Atlantic Ocean but there's a navigation span 197 feet high for ships.

This was shot from the P.E.I. side; you can see New Brunswick in the distance.  I shot this photo with a 600mm telephoto lens.  You can't tell from the picture but I was fighting wind and rain, quite a contrast with the perfect weather I had four days earlier shooting the bridge.

Hopewell Rocks (#2 HDR)
Darlene and I just got back from a two-week vacation on the Canadian East Coast, the Maritimes.  One of the first things we did was to drive down to the coast of New Brunswick and photograph the iconic Hopewell Rocks, weird landforms carved out by the Bay of Fundy, which has the highest tidal range in the world, at a maximum of 53.5 feet!  On this evening, the tide was low enough for us to be able to walk out to the rocks.  The tourists had most of them gone home for the day and the place was closed, but you can still access the site by hopping the gates at the visitor centre and walking the path for about ten or fifteen minutes.  Evening was already upon us, the tide was beginning to come in, and the last stragglers left me and Darlene alone with these iconic rocks all to ourselves.  It was one of those time you never forget.

Thank-you for selecting so many of my cemetery images as fav’s.  You being a lit prof, specializing in E.A.Poe, I shouldn't be surprised.  If you can, please let me know what there is about the shots you find intriguing.  A llama is winging its way to you in thanks.
